The pet products industry continues to experience growth, with spending increasing nearly 11% over the past year. As owners prioritize the health and happiness of their pets, the pet products market remains healthy, according to the American Pet Products Association (APPA).1
The industry achieved over $135 billion in sales in 2022, demonstrating a 10.8% increase in spending compared to 2021. APPA survey results also indicated that $58.1 Billion was spent by owners on pet food, including treats, in 2022, an increase of 16.2% from the previous year. Although pet food is the highest spending category and saw the largest increase in spending in the industry, various categories also saw growth in spending, including veterinary care products, supplies for pets and over-the-counter medications.1
According to the results of an APPA survey of pet owners, two-thirds of respondents consider their pets in their financial plans. Pet owners demonstrated commitment to standards of care for their pets, including nutrition (75%) and brand loyalty (56%), in contrast to respondents (31%) who viewed supplies overall as discretionary and plan to reduce their spending. on these purchases.1
In 2022, dvm360® published our first Most recommended veterinary products guide, a useful resource to help owners make informed decisions based on expert opinions from our veterinary readers. As veterinary professionals continue to advise their clients on product choices for their pets, our recommendations guide them by showcasing the brands and products most highly recommended by their peers.
The second annual survey of the most recommended veterinary products, conducted by The Agency Network of MJH Life Sciences®, asked more than 800 pet veterinarians for their brand recommendations in pet product categories including pet food and treats, behavior, nutraceuticals, oral health, dermatology, parasite prevention and toys. The pages of this publication are organized by product category and contain detailed pie charts that show the percentage of veterinarians who recommend each product. (Survey results add up to 100%; percentages shown in charts are rounded.)
Additionally, these product recommendations are visible online, where information can be viewed by category. Articles with additional information on these categories are also included in print and on our website. We hope you find our survey results useful and enjoy reading the 2023 guide to the best recommended veterinary products.
