The scars of their past were apparent; Excessively long nails and matted fur revealed the neglect these animals suffered. Many exhibited behavior that showed their unfamiliarity with human contact, waving their legs in the air as if they were swimming – a gesture born from never having been held or lifted before.
Amy Anner, Associate Director of Volunteers and Fostering, gave each dog an extra hug as they were carried out of our mobile rescue unit. “Witnessing the arrival of commercial breeder rescues is a favorite part of my job,” she said. “These dogs don’t realize that’s where everything changes for them. It’s such an exciting time. Amy whispered to each furry survivor, “Welcome to your new, amazing life.” »
Our immediate goal is always to assess the physical condition of each animal, looking for signs of injury or birth defects. Additionally, our groomers work tirelessly to ensure dogs are clean, healthy and ready to meet their potential adopters.
