A dachshund dog from Leicester, England, gave birth to 11 puppies in what could be a “record-breaking” litter last month, on September 6.
According to Daily MailWinne, the three-year-old mum of 11 puppies, gave birth at home near Leicester.
Unlike medium and large dog breeds, Dachshunds are usually capable of giving birth to around one to six puppies per litter due to their small size. So, Winnie giving birth to 11 puppies is an incredible feat!
Winnie’s owner Rayma Jones, 23, told the Daily Mail she was amazed by her dog’s litter and kept counting the puppies over and over.
She says, “I was so surprised I expected her to pull out another one when I wasn’t looking.”
“She’s a really great mom. I am overwhelmed that she was able to have a record number of puppies.
Jones can’t help but be proud of her little dog and even calls him “the best mom ever”. She revealed, “Winnie is natural. She even has ten nipples, which allows her to feed almost all of them at once – it’s very cute to watch.
“She never wants to leave them, and if she hears another dog, she’s right next to them.” » she continued.
According to Jones, Winnie gave birth to 10 puppies overnight and she continued to check on the super mom.
However, when she checked on the dog in the morning, another puppy was added to the litter.
Jones said, “I thought 10 was amazing. She had stopped panting and lay down to feed them. I really thought she was finished. When I came back, I counted them and there were 11.”
Winnie is a wire-haired dachshund and according to Jones, the super mom gave birth to five silver with black spots, three chocolate and three black and tan puppies.
Jones revealed she will sell Winnie’s puppies once they are ready to leave their mother at eight weeks old.
Although Jones is still unsure of the price of the puppies, she said she will have to sell them because she “I can’t live with 11 puppies or she’ll become a crazy dog girl!”
Although Winnie’s range is astonishing for her breed, the Guinness World Record Record for “largest litter of dogs” belongs to a Neapolitan mastiff, named Tia, who gave birth to 24 puppies.
Tia set the record on November 29, 2004 and no dog has broken the record since.
