A Bahamian dog is looking for a forever home after surviving a hit-and-run and being rescued by the Florida Urgent Rescue (FUR).
The dog, a Labrador-Retriever mix named Buster, experienced the worst situation of his life and is now ready to spend the rest happily, with a forever family.
Florida Urgent Rescue revealed that Buster came to them this year from the Bahamas. He was hit by a car and seriously injured.
FUR wrote in a Facebook post, “He was unable to walk and was in excruciating pain, dragging himself through the streets for weeks. »
The poor dog had been hanging around on the sidewalk too much for over a month and when the shelter found him, his kneecaps were described as being “raw and bloody to the bone” and his stomach was “raw and infected.”
“He was unhappy and everyone walked around him like he was invisible.”
Before Buster arrived at FUR, he was taken to the Bahamas Alliance for Animal Rights and Kindness (BAARK). However, the team did not have orthopedic specialists, so they called on FUR.
Buster’s prognosis was not good when he arrived at FUR. The vet said he had a serious spinal injury and because too much time had passed before he received medical attention, he was not a candidate for surgery.
But Buster is a determined dog and is now getting all the medical attention and care he needs. FUR said: “Despite his terrible injuries, this is probably the best life Buster has ever had.”
Buster has a foster mother, named Kelly MacDade, who cares for him and takes him to his physical therapy appointments.
In addition, the dog has even more amazing hoomans that get him to his vet appointments and wound treatment.
Buster also received a new personalized wheelchair from Walkin’ Pets by HandicappedPets.com that the dog showed in a Porsche event in Jacksonville.
FUR wrote, “He was walking around the showroom as if to say, ‘That’s nice, but look at my new model!'”
“In lifesaving, we see the worst and the best in people. Despite all the people who passed him in the streets, extraordinary people intervened to save his life. The FUR team said in a statement.
FUR also revealed that Buster’s behavior had changed. “When he was rescued, Buster was a miserable, defeated dog in so much pain he was barely holding on. A month later, he is a happy, playful dog who loves life despite his handicap. » said the rescue.
They attributed this change to Buster’s medical care and the love and attention he receives. They wrote, “For the first time in his life he has a home and he is part of a family, he is spoiled and loved.”
Now, Buster is ready for the next chapter of his life, which is finding a loving family with whom he can spend the rest of his life.
FUR wants potential adopters to know that although Buster is healing and “unstoppable” in its wheels, the doggie will still need additional help.
Buster’s new zest for life and self-confidence have not gone unnoticed at FUR. They took note and said this about the dog: “Buster is a shining example of courage, resilience and strength. It also reminds us that no matter what you have been through, tomorrow is a new day and you can look to the future with confidence.
