A U.S. Postal Service employee in Georgia is going viral after saving a dog bitten by a venomous snake on Friday, September 22.
One of the dog’s owners, Kelsey Proctor, took Facebook what happened to her dog, named Ginger, on September 22. She wrote : “Our dog, Ginger, was bitten by a copperhead snake today while we were at work.”
In the message, Kelsey also asked her friends to look for a postal worker who saved Ginger. “This nice woman took our daughter to the vet and left a note for us on her phone in our camera to see,” she wrote.
Within hours, they were able to identify the woman who saved Ginger as Holle Prigmore.
According to The New York PostPrigmore was delivering mail when she noticed that Ginger, who she usually gives treats to, was surprised by something in the grass.
After checking, she noticed a snake and saw it biting the Beagle’s back.
Fortunately, Prigmore was able to identify the snake as a copperhead, thanks to a photo shared in a snake identification group she is a part of on Facebook.
Copperhead snakes are venomous and their bite can cause intense and immediate pain as well as rapid swelling.
Prigmore attempted to alert the dog’s owners, Kelsey and Aaron Proctor. Unfortunately, the supervisors were not home at the time of the incident.
That’s when Prigmore sprung into action and took matters into her own hands: she located the Proctors’ doorbell camera and held up a note on her phone that read: “Little beagle bitten by Copperhead” before taking the dog to the veterinary hospital in Bremen.
“Within 30 seconds of her arriving, I probably took her into a room,” Prigmore spoke to FOX Business about the veterinarian who treated the animal and located its owner.
Kaitlyn Ross of 11Alive News shared more details about the incident on Facebook.
She reveals that Prigmore also took a photo of the snake to make sure she was giving the vet the correct information.
Ross also wrote about how Prigmore was just grateful to be in the right place, at the right time.
Prigmore told FOX Business, “I am not interested in compensation. Anyone in my industry would have done the same thing.
Kelsey Proctor said in her previous Facebook post: “Luckily, Ginger is going to make it through this, and I truly believe it’s because of this woman.”
Days after the incident, Kelsey shared a update on Ginger and said “She does it well.”
“She rested, got lots of love and under blankets. We are so grateful for the overwhelming love shown to Ginger and her sweet friend Holle, who was there for her in her time of need,” she wrote.
On Wednesday, September 27, Prigmore reunited with Ginger and Kelsey was able to personally thank the postal worker.
“Before I could even say anything to him, Ginger immediately jumped on him and jumped in his car and let Holle love him all over,” Kelsey says FOX 5.
