petco, where the pets go. That’s the motto the specialty retailer wants to apply to its latest retail development: Petco’s flagship store in New York’s Union Square.
The store is open and located at the corner of 17th and Park, 44 Union Square, and spans 25,000 square feet over two floors. The installation aims to combine the best elements of Petco’s physical and digital offerings.
Petco’s latest retail development boasts a variety of features including a grooming salon, veterinary hospital, JustFoodForDogs kitchen and curated merchandise selection.
“We are thrilled to welcome pets and their parents to this groundbreaking flagship experience that embodies Petco’s fully integrated, omnichannel pet health and wellness ecosystem within a single center of care. for pets,” the Petco chief said. Why the new flagship location
In an effort to ensure the well-being of pets, Petco in Union Square will serve as a hub offering a wide range of experiences, products and services.
The flagship store features a select assortment of premium products from vendors. Among the offerings is 17th & Bark, a premium collection of pet supplies inspired by the Union Square Farmer’s Market. The location also features the Reddy Shop, which offers an immersive shopping experience where pets and their parents can explore the latest styles from Petco-owned brand, Reddy, with fitting stations, a customization table and a lounge area.
Petco also says it features contributions from LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, women, and local creators and builders. Among the offerings, consumers will find Hiro Clark’s inaugural pet collection, pet and pet parent apparel from Andrea Caceres, pet portraits from Ben Lenovitz and accessories. for pets from Lambwolf Collective.
The full-service veterinary hospital, called Vetco Total Care, offers care throughout an animal’s life, including wellness exams, vaccinations, microchipping, dental, dermatology and surgical interventions.
At Ruff’s Barker Shop, which also has a convenient automatic wash station, dogs can benefit from high-end grooming services tailored to their needs. In addition, the flagship includes an indoor dog training park where certified trainers employ positive reinforcement methods to improve the social, mental and physical well-being of animals.
In the JustFoodForDogs kitchen, chefs prepare small-batch, human-grade meals for pets using fresh, wholesome ingredients.
The store also hosts cat adoptions and adoption events throughout the year in conjunction with local Petco Love animal welfare partners.
Designed with New York in mind
Nestled in the Tammany Hall building, the flagship Petco Union Square store aims to instill a sense of local charm. By incorporating verdant landscapes and blending design and architectural elements from various New York neighborhoods, the store captures the essence of the park and the atmosphere of an outdoor farmers market.
According to a recent PYMNTS report, Petco embraces the belief that whatever humans need, pets need too. In During Petco’s quarterly earnings call on May 24, the company announced a 20% increase in the number of pets attending veterinary appointments over the previous year, underscoring the demand veterinary services to Petco customers.
A factor in Petco’s success has been the creation of mobile clinics, extending veterinary care to a wider range of pet owners. Petco averaged more than 1,300 clinics per week, an increase of 22% over the previous year. These clinics offer fast, affordable, and convenient services, operating extended hours and weekends to accommodate varied schedules.
Petco also reported double-digit sales and customer growth for its fresh and frozen products. The partnership with Freshpet has enabled Petco to gain market share in a growing segment.
