We’ve heard of cats getting stuck in trees, but have you ever heard of a big dog stuck in a tree?
That’s what happened to Luna, a 10-month-old German Shepherd, after she went missing on December 3 and found herself stuck on a pine tree 25 feet up in El Dorado County, California.
According to KCRALuna usually plays with two other family dogs but did not return and disappeared on December 3 around 8:30 a.m.
The dog’s owner, Brian Spies, told KCRA: “We searched for her all day, going up and down the mountain and calling to her. We were afraid she would be hurt.
But it seemed Spies didn’t “roll his eyes.” Because the next day, around 10:30 a.m., Spies’ friends, Luka Bogdanovich and Jared Johnson, found the doggie on a tree!
“I just drive down the road and look left. I’ll be damned. I saw something in the tree and I thought, ‘Holy cow, it’s the dog'” Bogdanovich says.
The spies had a theory that while Luna was out and about, she was chasing a squirrel up a tree. “Then I realized, ‘I made a huge mistake.'”
The spies rescued Luna from the tree with her friends. He climbed a 24-foot extension ladder while his friends held it. They also had a sleeping bag with them, in case things went wrong.
The spies said they felt like firefighters and recounted the rescue saying: “I had to hug her and climb down the ladder with no hands.
After the rescue, Luna was visibly tired but is now back to her normal self. The spies said: “It was an impressive climb and the height it reached.”
Spies also said that he learned a very important lesson from this incident with Luna: “If she ever gets lost again, we will look up, because she can climb trees.”
