TEARS is seeking an experienced General Manager to manage the organization, oversee business operations and provide strategic leadership. The position is based in Sunnydale, Cape Town.
The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s strategic plans and policies, directing the operations of the organization to ensure it achieves its objectives, leading the TEARS team, managing stakeholder relationships and ensuring organizational success.
Empathy towards animals and people is fundamental to the requirements of this position.
Responsibilities include:
- Organizational, people and animal management for effective sustainability.
- Managing fundraising and creating a sustainable future for the company
- Assessing divisions of organizations – which generate profits and create sustainability and improved provision for animals and communities in the future
- Develop and execute company business plans to achieve the organization’s vision and objectives
- Oversee the financial performance of the company. Responsible for controlling and reducing operational costs, as well as increasing revenue for continued sustainability and growth, according to agreed targets. Manage annual operating budgets.
- Develop, maintain and continually improve company policies and protocols.
- Communicate and maintain relationships of trust with stakeholders, partners, volunteers and donors
- Inspire, motivate and lead the TEARS team in achieving the organization’s vision
- Manage marketing and fundraising departments to generate revenue and awareness for animals and communities in need.
- Ensure the Retail division maintains consistent annual growth to support TEARS operations.
- Manage human resources, ensure employees work productively and develop professionally, oversee the recruitment and training of new employees.
- Prepare quarterly reports for the board of directors and present them at the annual AGM.
Requirements and skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education with more than 10 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience as a General Manager or similar leadership role
- Experience in strategic planning and budgeting
- Knowledge of business processes and functions (finance, HR, purchasing, marketing, sales/fundraising/business development, operations, etc.)
- Exceptional organizational and leadership skills
- Business and management principles and practices
- Experience in accounting/financial management, analysis of management accounts and preparation of budgets
- Human resources management principles and procedures
- Marketing and fundraising experience
- Confident presentation skills
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical ability
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to keep a cool head in high-pressure situations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- SA driving license and own vehicle
- Own a computer
- Hybrid working arrangements possible after probation
