Supplies:
- Large plastic storage bin
- Dryer Duct (Flexible Aluminum Duct)
- PVC Plumbing Couplers (2)
- HVAC tape or duct tape
- Utility knife
- Fog machine
- Ice
Instructions:
- Prepare the plastic storage bin. Start by selecting a large plastic storage bin as the main chamber for your mist cooler. Make sure it is large enough to accommodate the flow rate of your fog machine.
- Create your fog entry point. Trace a PVC plumbing coupler near the bottom of one end of the storage bin. Use a utility knife to cut a hole in the tray where you traced the coupler.
- Connect the PVC couplers. Insert a PVC plumbing coupler into the hole and attach the other coupler to it. This serves as a connector for your fog machine.
- Create a fog entry point. Place your fog machine outside the plastic bin and attach it to the second coupler. This creates an entry point for the fog into the container.
- Seal all joints. Use HVAC tape or duct tape to seal all connections and joints to prevent leaks and maintain a cool environment inside the cooler.
- Connect the dryer vent. Attach the dryer vent to the end of the first PVC plumbing coupler inside the plastic tub. Shape the duct like an elbow, acting as a chimney for the mist. The fog will travel up the conduit and cascade onto the ice.
- Create a cooled fog exit point. Use your utility knife to cut a short, wide rectangle from the bottom of the storage bin opposite the fog entry point. This will be the exit of the cooled fog.
- Insulate to seal the container. Apply electrical tape to the top seal of the storage container to prevent mist from escaping through the top.
- Test for leaks. Close the container and run the fog machine to check for any leaks. Seal any leaks with tape.
- Add ice. Empty a bag of ice into the plastic storage bin. The cold temperature will cool and densify the fog as it passes through the cooler.
- Run the fog machine. Turn on the fog machine. The fog will be sucked into the plastic storage bin through the inlet hole, pass through the cooled area with the ice, and exit out the outlet hole as cold, low-lying fog.
- Secure and decorate. Make sure all components are secure and safe to use. You can decorate the outside of the plastic storage bin to fit your Halloween theme.
CAUTION: Use the DIY fog machine and fog cooler in a well-ventilated area.
