A family from Newtown, Sydney, Australia, are heartbroken after discovering their missing dog had been hit by a train and was subsequently buried by a Sydney Trains employee in a shallow grave next to the train tracks.
The dog, which according to Daily Mailis a six-year-old girl named Tammy, who was hit by a train at Sydenham station after running away from her new family’s home on September 23.
However, after being hit by a train, Tammy’s owners were not contacted, despite the dog being microchipped.
The family desperately searched for their dog for weeks – they constantly posted about their missing dog on a lost and found pets page on Facebook.
They wrote, “Tammy is a real sweetheart and it is very possible that she will hide out of sight during the day – venturing out early in the morning and evening where there is little human activity.”
The owners were then mentioned Arthur & Co. Pet Detectivesa page that uses various methods to find lost or stolen pets in Australia.

On October 3, a week after their first post, Arthur & Co. Pet Detectives posted an urgent update on Tammy.
They revealed that someone had announced that there was a deceased dog matching Tammy’s description found near the railway tracks at Sydenham station.
They wrote, “We spoke with one of the managers at Sydenham station who confirmed that the deceased dog matched Tammy’s description and that the dog had not been microchipped or announced to the public to try and trace the owners , and that he had instead been buried somewhere next to the train tracks.”
The Arthur & Co. team contacted senior management at Sydney Trains to help them recover and identify the dog’s body.
The body was recovered by the team with Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic Sydney and was scanned for a microchip.
Arthur & Co. wrote: “We are deeply saddened to announce that the dog who died on the train tracks has been 100% confirmed to be Tammy via microchip analysis.”
“It’s very sad indeed, but we are reassured to know that Tammy’s final resting place will not be where she met her tragic and untimely end,” they continued.
The Arthur & Co. team also shared that the CEO of Sydney Trains had assured that there would be “quick and meaningful” change the way they treat deceased animals after the Tammy tragedy.
Many dog lovers were heartbroken by Tammy’s story. A user wrote: “I was praying for a happy ending for this family.” While another wrote, “RIP precious, glad you finally got to come home, even if it’s not the way your loving parents would have liked.”
