A family from Burke, Virginia, learned a very important lesson strawberry way when they brought home the wrong Golden Retriever from doggie daycare on Tuesday, September 5.
When the incident occurred, the family dropped off their Golden Retriever, named Ehmi, at doggy daycare, Loving Pet Care in Fairfax, Virginia.
They opted for a haircut for Ehmi at daycare and then asked the family’s son to pick up the dog.
Later, after “Ehmi” came home, the family noticed something was wrong with her. But Ehmi’s owners ignored it and thought it might just be due to the haircut she got.
However, the family began to notice changes in “Ehmi” – Ehmi, who normally does not lick faces, began to do so. The doggie, who loved a certain neighbor, suddenly lost interest in this neighbor. And the cats started attacking the poor dog. Additionally, “Ehmi” started panting heavily and seemed anxious.
Thinking something was wrong with their dog, Kebby Kelley, Ehmi’s owner, took the dog to an emergency veterinarian.
On Wednesday evening, the family realized that the Golden Retriever they brought home was actually not Ehmi.
Kebby said FOX 5 that the veterinarian confirmed his suspicions by checking the dog’s microchip.
Kebby also said in an interview with FOX 5, “From now on, like before we picked her up, we are checking her tongue.”
“We make sure that birthmark is there because, believe it or not, it wasn’t that hard – that’s why we can’t be too mad at daycare. They look so similar! It’s really difficult,” she continued.
Mr. and Mrs. Kelley also made it clear that they were not unhappy with the doggy daycare because they, including Emhi, loved the business.
In fact, Affectionate Pet Care revealed that Ehmi actually has a doggie daycare twin named Maddy. With this information, they were able to quickly respond to the incident and reunite the Golden Retriever with his owners, for real this time.
After having this experience, Kebby said: “I will tell anyone who has a pet that you really love, to chip your pet.”
