A dog that had been left on the highway in Fresno, California for about a week was rescued by a search and rescue group on Tuesday, November 14.
Krystle Woodward Pinky Paws Research and ResQ posted a series of video and photo updates about the dog on their Facebook page.
In one of the updates, they revealed that they called 911 for help to save the dog. The rescue group said the California Highway Patrol came to help.
“An officer came out and said the dog was dead” Pinky Paws Search & ResQ wrote. But the search and rescue group insisted the dog was alive and asked officers to stop traffic so they could save it.
“I begged. He called for reinforcements to stop traffic. He told us to be ready. I was shaking the whole time, afraid the dog would get adrenaline and get up. I continued to pray“Woodward said.
In a heartbreaking moment video footageWoodward’s husband zoomed in on the dog lying on the highway.
Woodward’s husband can be heard saying: “As you can see in the video, he is very, very skinny (and) you can see (his) ribcage. This is a very dangerous area.
In the rescue video posted by Pinky Paws Search & ResQ, you can see Woodward and her husband saving the poor dog.
You can see the dog trying to bite them and you can also hear it barking at them, which Woodward said was completely normal.
Woodward thanked CHP for helping them save the dog. She said in a video update, “I am so grateful when our law enforcement and CHP were so kind to us in saving the animals.”
After rescuing the dog, Pinky Paws Search & ResQ immediately took the dog to the vet.
They said, “The doctor said she would need 2-3 days of hospitalization for fluids, blood work, tick test, medication, etc.” Additionally, she tested positive for anaplasmosis, a tick-borne disease, has a previous litter, and may have a foxtail in her ear.
In addition to this, the rescue team also discovered that the dog was female and decided to give her a name: Nova.
“We are so grateful that everything went well. Thank you for helping us help this sweet angel. We can’t wait to see his tail wag and his happiness shine through. Nova, this is your new beginning, “ Pinky Paws Search & ResQ wrote.
And even though Nova was saved, she still has a long road to recovery. If you can afford it, you can help Nova on this journey and donate to her for her vet bills. See here to find out how to donate to Nova!
