There are many animals looking for their perfect forever home. Rochester, Minnesota and the surrounding area. Some animals stay longer than shelter staff would like, but they never abandon them.
Like a Paws and claws volunteer, I also do not abandon animals who stay longer. Even though I can’t be around much to help care for the animals, I still love seeing when a long-time resident is finally adopted.
Currently there are 13 cats who were looking for their forever homes for over a year at Paws and Claws. 13 cats who deserve a loving family and a warm bed for the holidays. Let me introduce them to you!
To blush
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Blush is 4 years old and has been with Paws and Claws since March 30, 2022, so she has been there for almost two years. She is described as suspicious and “it took over two weeks before she let her adoptive mother touch her”. She loves string toys and although she can be snappy, she also wants attention. It will just take her some time to adjust to her new home and she needs a family who knows that, but it will be worth it.
Carson
Humane Society Paws and Claws
We’ve already talked about Carson. Carson is 6 years old and has been with Paws and Claws since July 6, 2021. He is a very sweet boy but what his new family needs to be very aware of is that he has pica. This means he’s eating things he’s not supposed to. He underwent several surgeries to remove the blockages. His family will therefore have to keep their living space free of blankets, stuffed animals, curtains, etc. I always said Carson would be perfectly content in his own cat room in someone’s house. He just needs a safe space for himself. Plus, I can guarantee you that as much as he loves the employees and volunteers at Paws and Claws, I’m sure he would much rather be in a room of his own with his family forever.
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Fuzzy Wuzzy is 2 years old and has been with Paws and Claws since March 31, 2022. He is a little shy and will probably need time to adjust. They say that when he arrived at the shelter, “(he) wasn’t too sure he could be handled and hid most of the time.” Now he can go outside, spend time with the other cats and watch the birds through the window. He needs a family willing to give him time to adapt to a new environment, which can take several months depending on the cat and the environment.
Grover
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Grover is 1 year old and has been with Paws and Claws since July 25, 2022. He is another cat who just needs time to adjust. I think many of these types of cats stay in a shelter for a long time because people are hesitant to commit to a shy animal. As long as you give them time and space, they will adjust at their own pace. Grover’s bio says “If you give me a little time to get used to you, I’ll let you pet me. I like petting. I do! I like playing with wand toys and chasing the light laser too.”
Oren
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Oren is 2 years old and has been with Paws and Claws for a little over a year now, since November 21, 2022. He is a very playful and fun guy who sometimes doesn’t know when it’s a little too hard. He will sometimes have a “mouth” because he is too excited. He will need an experienced cat owner so he knows how to help him improve his manners. But if you’re looking for a fun cat, Oren is your man!
Pipsqueak
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Pipsqueak is 1 year old and has been at Paws and Claws since September 30, 2022. She is one of those cats that I don’t understand how she has been at the shelter for so long. She is a very friendly cat who comes to greet me when I enter her colony and loves to lie on my lap. She also gets along with other cats. I think the main reason she hasn’t been adopted yet is because her third eyelids don’t fully retract. You’ll want to talk to the cat adoption counselor about your condition, but from my quick Google searches it doesn’t seem like that’s creating many problems for her and unless her condition is really bad (which I’m pretty sure that’s not the case). ) she does not need medication.
Poppy and Roger
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Poppy (black) is 9 years old and Roger (black and white) is 3 years old and they have both been with Paws and Claws since March 17, 2022. They have both spent time together in foster care and it is where they bonded, so they must be adopted together. Poppy is quite shy, but she loves animals and playing once she feels comfortable. Roger, it is said, was shy at first, but later became a friendly, outgoing guy. One of my favorite things about Roger is that he sometimes carries plastic balls in his mouth. Super cute!
Pygmy
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Pygmy is 1 year old and has been with Paws and Claws since September 30, 2022. She’s actually Pipsqueak’s sister! Although it is not necessary for them to be adopted together, if you are looking for two cats, these two would be perfect together. Pygmy is the type to stroke only on my terms, but she really loves to play. Her former foster mother says “play therapy” will be a great way to get her to relax and become more friendly. I wonder if she is with Pipsqueak (who is very sociable) if that would help too.
Ruth
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Ruth is 2 years old and has been with Paws and Claws since August 2, 2022. She is a cat who will need time to adapt and get used to you and her new living environment. After being in a foster family. she came to the shelter. But upon arrival, she hid for most of the next four months. I told you that animals can take a long time to adapt. She eventually started playing with other cats and occasionally accepts pets. In her bio, it says that after 7 months at the shelter, she finally decided that humans were okay and started interacting with them.
Sammy and Simon
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Sammy and Simon are brothers who are both 2 years old and have been with Paws and Claws since December 29, 2021, so it’s almost 2 years. They also both need time to adjust to a new environment. I remember meeting these guys for the first time when they arrived at the shelter and they were very shy. I didn’t like people approaching them, that sort of thing. But they have definitely come out of their shell. They are not cats who come to sit with me but they are much more comfortable with human presence and they have actually accepted pets now. A pair of cats who, if given the necessary time and space, will reward you with lots of love when they are ready.
Sand Claws
Humane Society Paws and Claws
Sandy Claws is 2 years old and has been with Paws and Claws since October 7, 2022. From my experience with her, she is a little feisty at times. Her bio says she is a “sweet girl with an easy-going personality, but I like to set my own terms and boundaries.” Plus, the shelter environment is just very stressful for some cats, so her true personality won’t shine until she’s home safe with the perfect family who will give her time to warm up .
