Birthdays are a great way to celebrate those we love the most! Here in our Parnell Living Science office, many of us on the team celebrate their birthdays in the summer and we have enjoyed celebrating all month in the office. In August we celebrate the anniversary of Glyde™ Mobility Chew! Also, August 1st is “DOGust,” which is the official day to celebrate your adopted dog’s birthday, if you don’t know the actual birthday date. Whether you’re hosting a dog-themed birthday party or celebrating your dog’s birthday, here are some ideas you can use to spoil the ones you love: dogs or humans, or even both! Plus, get a FREE downloadable birthday sign for your dog right here in this post! Keep reading to find out more!
Simple approach: pamper your dog
If you want your dog to feel special, pamper him and let him know how special he is. Just wake up and start with lots of praising, cuddling, and taking your furry baby for a quick walk outside to fill him up with good smells. You can take it a step further and offer them a special treat. Take lots of photos and post them on your favorite social networks.

Host a dog party
We threw a party for our dog, Luna. We invited all our doggie cousins! Hilarity ensues when you have all the dogs together. Unfortunately, it was difficult to get them all to sit patiently for dog photos. We had 5 dogs present. How do dog trainers do it? I don’t know, but for us it was as good as it gets. I don’t know who had more fun, the guests or the hosts!

Host a dog-themed party
Because we’re dog lovers, a dog-themed party is a perfect way to celebrate any human birthday. A few items from the store and you’re partying! Or make your own, like this dog cake below. This is one of our family’s favorite cakes, which featured a picture of all our chious cousins for a birthday.

Hollywood Dog Party
Is your dog the type to pay attention to the TV when there’s a dog around? Here is a hilarious video of dogs watching television. Mine never did. But that never stopped me from watching a great movie with dogs in it! “Cats vs. Dogs” was one of our favorites. Check your favorite streaming app for the best dog or cat movies you have!

Find a special toy
Take your dog to the local pet store like this Golden Retriever’s parent did. This is so cute! Even though it wouldn’t work for my beagle, she would sniff other dogs and people everywhere, trying to get into dog food… Seems to work for a non-bitch breed like this Golden Retriever.

Prepare a special treat
If you feel like cooking, your dog will gladly participate in the tasty dishes in your kitchen. Be sure to find dog-friendly recipes or take them to your favorite local barkery restaurant. Or just buy something fun from your favorite pet store. We found this adorable dog birthday cookie at our local PetSmart!

Take your dog shopping
When people want to take their dog shopping, most think of taking it to a pet store. Did you know that there are several other stores that accept pets? Huffington Job wrote about pet-friendly stores that allow your dog in. They say it’s always good to call ahead, as some stores can vary depending on the manager.

Get a new pet item for the home
Some things are not considered gifts when you receive them. But they are necessary and remain a thoughtful gift. I would put a new vacuum cleaner or toaster on this list. It’s not a gift for me, but something the whole family will enjoy. The same goes with a new leash, collar, or bed for your dog. If your dog needs something, now is the time to get it.

Drive through a treat
There are several drive-in restaurants that offer something free for your dog. We frequent our favorite ice cream parlor and get a “puppy cup” for our dog. They can enjoy a cold and tasty treat with us!

Play their favorite game
Can we bring it back with a ball or a toy? Will it run or walk somewhere? Is it hide and seek? Whatever your dog likes to do, do it on his special day!
