The Reno Kennel Club, Inc. was first incorporated in 1938 and the annual Reno Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show has become a community staple, attracting exhibitors from 24 states to exhibit 125 different breeds in 2022.
The event takes place at the Reno Livestock Event Center and includes three days of conformation, junior and beginner puppy classes. This event is popular among exhibitors for several reasons: Nevada is in Division 13, which requires a lower number of breed entries to build a major, which is a point system used by the American Kennel Club to obtain championship titles. For this reason, the Reno Dog Show is a favorite among exhibitors.
Additionally, the show features three days of National Owner-Run Series, a separate competition for dogs exhibited by their owners. According to the America Kennel Club, more than 80% of show dogs are cared for by their owners. To celebrate the dedication and enthusiasm of exhibiting owner-handlers, the American Kennel Club created the National AKC Owner-Handled Series in 2018. The top 10 dogs in each breed are invited to attend the NOHS held as part of the prestigious Royal Canin AKC National Championship. in Florida on December 15 and 16, 2023. The qualification period for the NOHS runs from September 21, 2022 to September 20, 2023.
The Reno Kennel Club, Inc. is pleased to announce the creation of the Reno Kennel Club, Inc. Scholarship Fund which will be awarded in the amount of $500.00 each day to the top young handler. A junior handler is between the ages of 9 and under 18. A junior handler must obtain a junior number before the day of the event to track their victories. A Junior Handler can also compete in regular conformation.
The Reno Kennel Club, Inc. also offers a three-day beginner puppy class, better known as BPup. This is open to AKC registered puppies between 4 and 6 months of age and is a relaxed, stress-free way to get your start in the world of dog showing. It’s also a great way for you and your pup to socialize with other dogs and other dog lovers. You and your puppy can work to earn a Puppy Certificate of Achievement or Certificate of Merit in this competition.
The event includes free parking and free entry. The show starts at 8 a.m. and ends in the late afternoon with regular group competitions and owner-run group competitions. There are seven groups in the AKC: Herding, Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, Sporting, Terrier and Working. The winner of each group then competes for Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show.
This is a great event that the whole family can attend. Make a day of it, come watch your favorite breed and cheer them on for Best in Show!!!!
