Other things to know
Car park: Police and volunteers will direct you to park in commercial parking lots near Embarcadero and East Bayshore roads. Plan to arrive early and carpool if possible, as lots will fill up. We recommend arriving at least one hour before your event. Please avoid parking in Stanford Eye Clinic parking lots.
Bicycle parking: Bicycle parking is available.
Registration on race night: 5 km walk: $45. 5 km race: $50. 10 km race: $50. Half marathon: $60.
Registration: Race registration, sponsor and race headquarters stands, first aid and food/water are located on the infield of the Baylands Athletic Center, located at the end of Geng Road.
Tee-shirts : T-shirts are available by registration only while supplies last. Sizing is also not guaranteed as it is first come, first served. T-shirts for participants who register early but do not show up will not be accepted. Children who run for free do not receive T-shirts.
Starting line: The start and finish of the four events take place in the (closed) parking lot of the Baylands Athletic Center. All events will head south on Geng, turn east on Embarcadero, then head south on trails and seawalls toward Mountain View. (See course map for more details.)
Storage: Limited screening of small personal bags and backpacks is available.
Pets: Dogs are allowed on the 5km walk, but not on any of the trails, where the terrain and darkness make their presence too dangerous. No retractable leash. Bring your own cleaning bag.
Strollers: Jogging strollers are welcome on the 5k walk or at the back of the trails.
Visibility: Headlamps are highly recommended for all races.

The Moonlight Run & Walk includes three routes through the Palo Alto Baylands. Map made by Embarcadero Media.
The routes: 3 ways to explore the Baylands
All events start and finish in the large parking lot next to the Bayland Athletic Center at the end of Geng Road. Water/aid stations are located approximately every 2.5 miles, except on the 5K course, where there is one before the 2-mile mark.
5 km walk and run
The 3-mile course follows the San Francisquito Creek levee past the north side of the Palo Alto Golf Course and the airport, and after the 1-mile mark it turns south and passes the center of Baylands interpretation. The trail then joins Embarcadero Road just before the 1 mile mark, passes the duck pond and follows Embarcadero west past the airport and golf club. The finish is along Geng Road, back to the Baylands Athletic Center car park.
10 km race and half marathon
The 10K and half marathon races each start south along Geng Road from the Baylands Athletic Center parking lot, jog west on Embarcadero Road, then turn south on Faber Way. The route then enters the Baylands and follows a mostly straight paved path that includes an approximately 1-mile stretch next to the East Bayshore Border Road. At the 2-mile mark, where Adobe Creek flows into the bay, the trail turns sharply west over an earthen dike and reaches the first water station. It then crosses the edge of the Baylands, eventually returning north, crossing a swamp on a pedestrian bridge, then turning west toward Byxbee Park.
The two trails split at the second water station about 4.5 miles into the course, as the course approaches Byxbee Park.
The 10 km route: 10K runners go straight and follow the Byxbee Park access road to Embarcadero Road. A short turnaround takes place in front of the small airport terminal, then riders head west on Embarcadero Road, back to Geng Road and on to the finish.
The half marathon route: Half-marathoners turn left at the fork (at the second water station) and follow a trail that goes west along a swamp that returns runners to the first leg of the race along East Bayshore Road for a second round. When they reach the Byxbee Park water station for the second time, they turn left again onto the Slough Trail. But just after mile 11 and before going to East Bayshore Road, the final leg of the half marathon course turns north, up and down Byxbee Hill, then rejoins the 10K course on the access road at Byxbee Park. It does the same turnaround and then follows Embarcadero Road west to Geng Road and the finish. Note: Half marathoners who reach the 9.5 mile checkpoint after 9:30 a.m. (two hours after the 7:30 p.m. race start) will be detoured and follow a shorter route to the finish line.
Race results
Results from in-person races will be available on computer screens at the Baylands Athletic Center beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m. on race night. The results will also be published online at bit.ly/3LrQFyG.
Medals for first, second and third place in each division will be awarded once the final results are known, between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. To maintain fairness to in-person runners, virtual participants will not be eligible for awards and will not be able to submit schedules.
