Independence Day is just around the corner and as you prepare to celebrate this day with your friends and family, don’t forget your animal companions who also deserve to have fun by socializing and attending get-togethers. It’s normal for pets to become a little anxious and insecure in busy places and areas, so it is suggested to prepare them in advance by taking them to their favorite places outside and pampering them with amazing foods. Considering that Independence Day is about celebrating the spirit of freedom, do things that will make your pet feel free and happy. Include them in your celebration by getting them a patriotic-themed costume or bandana and preparing tricolor snacks. Remember to give them access to a comfortable space where they can relax outside of the gathering. “India is celebrating its 76th Independence Day this year. It is the day when we celebrate the struggle for freedom and the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. A time of joyful celebration, introspection and moments of quality with our loved ones, including our furry family members, Independence Day is a time for all of these things,” says Dr. Sanjiv Rajadhyaksha, Medical Director at Wiggles MyVet.
Dr. Rajadhyakasha suggests fun ways to celebrate Independence Day with your furry friends:
1. Dress to show patriotism
Start the day by dressing your pet in a safe and comfortable bandana or costume with a patriotic theme. Your pet and your neighbors will be able to take a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood while wearing festive attire. Don’t forget to take nice photos.
2. Homemade Pet Treats
Prepare patriotic-themed snacks for your pets. Blueberries, plain yogurt and strawberries can be combined to create a tasty and healthy frozen treat for dogs. Make sure the ingredients are always safe for pets and give them in moderation.
3. Manufacturing time
Make toys for your pets to celebrate. It’s a great way to get in the mood and keep pets occupied, with orange, white and green feather toys for cats and patriotically hued braided ropes for dogs.
4. Take them for a long walk
Independence Day is all about freedom and you need to make sure you let your pet enjoy it to the fullest. One of the best things you can do for them is to take them for a long walk and let them explore a beautiful natural environment.
5. Let them celebrate the day with their friends
While you prepare your playlist of patriotic songs and concoct tricolor recipes for Independence Day, don’t forget to invite your animal companion’s favorite friends and treat them to a nice special I-Day brunch. This will save them the stress of having unfamiliar faces around them.
How to Control Your Pet’s Anxiety
Safe haven
Prepare a quiet, safe space for your pets if cultural events in your neighborhood make your pet uncomfortable. Ensuring your pet has a quiet space with their favorite blankets, toys, and music will help reduce tension, as some pets are afraid of unfamiliar faces and loud music.
Communicate
If your pet is afraid of loud music during Independence Day celebration or is uncomfortable when people talk loudly, you can share it with other people so that they are sensitive to the anxieties of your animal companion.
