Dogs made famous by movies and their famous owners have inspired many people to acquire this particular breed. Once they brought the puppy home, did it live up to their expectations?
For what DO do we want and get the dogs we have?
Here are some of the common reasons:
1. I wasn’t planning on going to the pet store, but I did and saw a puppy with the cutest face in there, and she was so sad I couldn’t I just couldn’t leave without her, so I “saved” her.
2. This dog Paris Hilton owns – I want one like that, but smaller.
3. My friend has the cutest Yorkshire Terrier, so I have one too.
4. I met a Labrador Retriever in the park and he was so well-behaved and gentle. I want one like that.
5. I saw a picture of a Bloodhound – the dog was sleeping on the porch – I want a dog that will just hang out with me like that.
6. As long as it doesn’t shed, I don’t care what kind of dog it is.
7. I wanted a dog that I could carry around with me and buy him some really cute clothes, maybe one of those bodyslings so I could take him to the mall with me.
8. None of those dirty dogs for me – I’ll get a Rottweiler, or maybe a Cane Corso. These dogs are really cool.
9. Remember that dog from Wizard of Oz, what was it, a kind of burrow? He was a nice dog. I want this kind of dog.
10. Well, it’s freezing in upstate New York, so I’m going to get a dog that likes the cold, like a Husky or Malamute.
11. I love the color of Irish Setters. I bet this dog will look great lying next to the fireplace.
12.I saw this dog in a magazine. You have to bring it from Argentina and it costs about $3,000! My family and friends will be so impressed that I have a dog like this.
13. My children bother me over a dog. I will surprise them at Christmas with a puppy. I’ll just find a cheap one in one of those newspaper ads.
14. My parents had a Cocker Spaniel when I was little. He was a great dog, so I’m going to buy one.
There are probably as many reasons to get a dog as there are breeds. Before making the decision based on that of the dog:
