Experts warn dog owners not to panic after five dogs at an Oregon animal sanctuary were sent to the emergency room and one of them died following an outbreak of pneumonia.
Lee Asher, owner of Asher House Animal Sanctuary in Estacada, near Portland, posted a video to social media on August 4. ask for help and donations after saying the community and sanctuary had been struck by a “rare type of pneumonia.”
“Unfortunately he has reached the sanctuary and we have some bad news to share,” Asher wrote on social media. “The vets don’t know about it and all the emergency rooms are completely full in our area.”

What to know about a possible dog pneumonia outbreak in Oregon
THE Oregon Veterinary Medical Association wrote on its website on August 10 that it was aware of the suspected outbreak and that tests are underway to determine the cause of the illness.
The association said it had been in contact with several veterinarians, emergency veterinary clinics and humane organizations in the Portland metro area and Willamette Valley and that as of Aug. 7, they had not reported ” a widespread increase in cases or serious canine respiratory illnesses in Oregon at this time. »
