Rainbow Bridge Memorial Day is a heartfelt and poignant day of celebration that has taken place on August 28 since its inception in 2012. The day honors the precious animal companions who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, a metaphorical representation of where Pets are said to find eternal peace and solace after death. Pet owners and animal lovers around the world come together on this day to honor the memory of their beloved pets, sharing stories, photographs and memories of the special times they shared. This day is a time for reflection, healing and recognizing the deep bond between humans and their animal companions. Rainbow Bridge Memorial Day offers comfort to those who are grieving and provides a platform to celebrate the joy and love pets bring into our lives.
This year, we shine a poignant light on Marley the Coonhound, a cherished companion whose memory we cherish. With heavy hearts, we share that Marley’s trip was unexpectedly cut short by cancer earlier this summer, reminding us of the fleeting nature of life’s joys. As we celebrate Marley’s life and the joy he brought, we express our gratitude to his devoted mother, Rebecca, for allowing us to remember and cherish the moments that made Marley truly special. We fell in love with Marley the moment we met him, as have many who have met him. He was a special dog and we are very happy that Rebecca allowed us to celebrate Marley’s life as Memorial Dog of the Year. We will honor Marley’s memory on special days of remembrance.
Have you recently lost a pet? It’s always hard to say goodbye to our pets, but here are some unique days when you can celebrate their memory of the impact they’ve had on your life:
Coping with the death of a beloved pet is a deeply moving and empowering experience. The loss of a loyal and valued companion can bring on a whole range of intense feelings, from sadness and grief to a sense of emptiness. It is important to allow yourself to grieve and process these emotions at your own pace. Remember that the bond you shared with your pet was unique and meaningful, and it is natural to feel a deep sense of loss.
Here are four things you can do to deal with the loss of a beloved pet:
- Allow yourself to grieve: It’s important to give yourself permission to feel the full range of emotions that come with loss. Whether it’s sadness, anger, guilt, or even relief, every feeling is valid and part of the healing process.
- Create a memorial: Creating a tribute in memory of your pet can be a heartwarming way to honor their life. This could include creating a photo album, creating a scrapbook, planting a tree or flowers in their memory, or even writing a heartfelt letter expressing your feelings and memories.
- Find help: Share your feelings with friends, family, or support groups who understand the depth of your bond with your pet. Sometimes talking about your pet and sharing stories can bring you comfort and help you deal with your grief.
- Take care of yourself : Taking care of your emotional and physical well-being during this time is crucial. Engage in activities that bring you comfort and peace, such as practicing mindfulness, pursuing hobbies, exercising, and maintaining a routine.
Remember that there is no right or wrong way to grieve and everyone copes with it differently. Over time, the pain may lessen, but the memories of your beloved pet will always hold a special place in your heart. It is important to give yourself permission to grieve, allowing tears and moments of reflection to facilitate the healing process. Over time, the pain may subside, but your pet’s treasured memories will always remain a treasured part of your heart.

For the love of a dog…this beautiful dog was well taken care of by his mom Rebecca. Meet Marley, a mix of equal parts Coonhound and Pitbull to create one gorgeous dog. Coonhounds are a common type of hound and a member of the hound group. Pit bulls are a type of dog descended from bulldogs and terriers. Put these two breeds together and you get Marley, the lovable “long-legged” #GlydeDog that Rebecca is proud to have as her own. We were thrilled to hear from Rebecca, who has been a Glyde Mobility Chews customer since 2018! Marley has been a #GlydeDog since he was 7 years old. It was great to hear from a long time customer why he chose Glyde Mobility Chews.
Although Rebecca is an avid dog mom, her photos tell how much her furry baby means to her. She has so much love for this dog and she sent many pictures to enjoy. She insists that she is not a photographer, but rather has a beautiful subject: her dog. And while she’s not a paid spokesperson either, she certainly could be. We loved hearing Rebecca talk about Marley and her dog’s love…she took care of him and photographed him to showcase his beauty and love. Of course, she wants Marley to be healthy and active longer in her life and she chose Glyde to help her.
Here is what Rebecca said:
“I have been a loyal Glyde customer since my dog was 7 years old! My dog is half Coonhound and half Pitbull, and a 100% energy ball. I knew that around the age of 5, I had to start look for a joint maintenance supplement, because he’s always been hard on his legs and he’s a really leggy guy,” Rebecca said.
“I’m really picky with the ingredients and Glyde was by far the best I could find, which also matched a limited list of ingredients we needed and did not include gross things like animal digestion or other unhealthy and unnecessary fillers.
— Rebecca, Marley’s mom
“Glyde has definitely kept him going all this time. He’s now 12 and hasn’t slowed down much at all. He’s still as active as he always was. He’s always loved running, jumping, hiking, playing, etc. and Glyde has helped keep him agile enough to continue doing all of his favorite activities.I have recommended him to several other people, including my parents’ dog who is 8 years old now and still behaving like a puppy. Attached are some of the several thousand photos of my pup over the years. Enjoy!”
— Rebecca, Marley’s mom
What was great about Rebecca was that she didn’t wait to protect her dog’s joints. She knew that good joint health was important to keep her dog happy and active. She researched our product, tried it and knew that Glyde Mobility Chews was the product with the best ingredients for her dog. The best thing about Glyde is the active ingredients and the fact that your dog thinks it’s a treat, but you know better; it’s good for him!
We loved all those fantastic photos of Rebecca’s life with Marley. You can see how much they love each other. On this Valentine’s Day, we all know who our favorite is: our dogs! Just like Rebecca and Marley: life is better with a dog!
