Dr. Leanne Lilly, a veterinary behaviorist and assistant professor of behavioral medicine at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, says that sometimes when it rains, it pours. Typically, when dogs have one anxiety they are likely to have another such as noise aversions, noise fears and phobias, and this can range from a car backfiring to to thunderstorms. And this problem is more common, and especially underestimated in cats.
Dr Lilly offers thoughts on what can be done to prevent this problem at a young age, or if the animal has a noise related anxiety problem, what to do?
