LOGAN, UT (ABC4) — The Mount Ogden Kennel Club will host its annual all-breed dog show this month, which is expected to bring up to 600 dogs into competition.
Taking place at the Cache County Fairgrounds from May 17-21, these four-legged competitors will compete for championship prizes as best in group and best in show in this American Kennel Club-licensed tournament . event.
According to Pat Jenkins, President of the Mount Ogden Kennel Club, “There’s a reason we’re considered the best small show in the West… It’s a fun activity for families and the perfect place to chat with breed experts on topics such as training, grooming. , and the right breed for your lifestyle.
With more than 125 breeds expected to compete, judges will evaluate each animal on many characteristics, including physical conditioning, coat quality, eye shape, teeth and more, as stipulated by the AKC.
Handlers who will compete alongside their canine companions must be dressed in their finest outfits as a sign of esteem for their dogs.
Jenkins notes that most spectators may be unaware of the time and training it takes to prepare dogs for competition. “People spent hours, days and years preparing for their two minutes of fame,” she says. “It’s a great place to people watch and look for your next dog to love.”
This competition will bring together professional breeders for anyone looking for more information or a new pet.
Jenkins also says the most impressive activities will take place in the morning and spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Additionally, no unregistered dogs are allowed on the grounds during the show.
